Class Information and Homework
PE Lessons
Our P.E. session in the hall is on a Wednesday.
We do not yet change for PE but we do take off our socks and shoes so it is really helpful when shoes are named.
Phonics
We teach phonics daily using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. Every day, the children will have a range of opportunities to lay the best possible foundations in Nursery for Phase 2 phonics, when children begin Reception, with our nursery rhyme activities and awareness of sounds including oral blending games.
Reading
At Catchgate Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular story times, we aim to increase vocabulary and give children experiences through books.
There are also 'real' books for children to explore in different areas of the Nursery and we re-read our core collection over and over so that we can become confident story-tellers!
Maths
In Nursery, we develop ‘Number Sense’ building a deep, intuitive understanding of numbers through play, songs, and everyday activities, focusing on concepts like quantity (more/less), comparing, recognising small groups, and counting, rather than just rote memorisation.
Activities involve counting fingers, building towers, using counters, playing dice games, sorting, and talking about 'how many' in various situations to develop a 'feel for numbers'.
You can practice any of these activities at home too!
