Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

We have already had a fantastic start to this year! The adults in our class will be me (Mrs Backhouse), Mrs Errington and Mr Scott. We are so excited to work with you all.

Here is a little bit of information about us.

Mrs Backhouse: I have worked in school for 6 years, having started off my time in Year 5 before moving to Year 2 and I am so excited to be back working in Year 5 and be working with you all. Outside of school, I enjoy walking and relaxing at home with my two cats, Jasper and Evie.

Mrs Errington: I have worked across most classes in school and I am so excited to be back working with Year 5. Outside of school, I enjoy taking my son to compete in athletics competitions and looking after my two crazy cats Donald and Samson.

Mr Scott: I have come back into school to work with you after working in school as a trainee teacher previously. Outside of school, I enjoy playing and watching sport and walking my dogs Summer and Skye.

Timetable

Class Expectations

In year 5, we are following the same high standards, rules and routines, that we have been following throughout the school. However, as we are now in upper Key Stage 2, we are expected to be role models for the younger children and to display a high level of independence and self motivation.

PE

PE kits should be brought to school at the beginning of a half term, to be taken home and the end and washed. In order to promote independence, we encourage parents to write names in all of children's things so that children can be responsible for looking after their things whilst they are in school. PE is on a Tuesday afternoon.

Forest School

Forest school for Year 5 is on a Thursday afternoon. As this happens weekly, whatever the weather, we ask that children dress appropriately in clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.

Reading

It is encouraged to read with your children every night and where possible, to talk about what has been read so that children get into the habit or answering questions about books which will help with their comprehension skills.

Spellings

Homework

To support their learning, children will receive weekly spelling practice, focused times tables, a variety of reading books, and engaging math tasks on Sumdog that align with their current lessons. These activities foster independent learning and reinforce classroom instruction. Please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or for additional support. Rights Respecting Schools in the Spring term!

Our school has a continued commitment to helping children learn about and understand their rights. Here are the individual rights we will be exploring across the school linking to our weekly themes. Please ask your children about these articles and speak with them about how they impact them at home too.
